Bathgate ASC Swimathon 3 Feb 2019 - Xcite Bathgate

Thank you to everyone who has registered for Swimathon. We’re pleased to say around 75 swimmers have now registered – this should be a fantastic and fun filled day! If you missed the registration date but still want to swim, we can still get you involved. Just respond to the e-mail sent to all members and we will put you on the schedule for the day.

We’re now able to share with you a bit more about how the day will work and also how to raise money for the charities involved.

During the day there will be a number of sessions. These are set out in the schedule below. You will notice that every squad has been offered 2 slots which they can swim in (3 for gold and above). You/your swimmer can attend one or both sessions. You will also have the opportunity to take part in fun sessions too. More about this will follow.

Now the important part – how to get sponsorship for the charities.

To raise money to help Bathgate ASC support the local community

The club are looking to raise money to help us support the local community. We have set up JustGiving crowdfunding page for this. To help raise money you can pledge to this page and/or spread the word to family, friends and neighbours through this link.

To raise money for The Polar Academy

Bathgate Academy is raising money for a charity called The Polar Academy this year. 10 of their pupils are being trained and supported by the charity to go on an arctic expedition to Greenland, one of whom is Bathgate ASC very own swimmer, Orla Morgan. As the Swimathon was Orla’s idea to raise money for both Polar Academy and the swimming club she loves, it would be good if we could promote and get some donations for Polar Academy too. You can do so through this link.

Raising money by sponsorship form

While the JustGiving links are easy to promote through social media and can be convenient for sponsors, sometimes good old paper works best. If you would prefer to get sponsors this way you can use the sponsorship form attached and collect the sponsorship yourself. The money can be handed in to the club. Please indicate if you want your donations to go to Bathgate ASC, Polar Academy or to be spit between the two. Sample Sponsor Sheet

This will be an amazing day for the club and the charities involved. Hopefully everyone can help us smash our charity targets too!

Developing our Learn to Swim Program (Changes in Structure)

Bathgate Amateur Swimming Club has run a successful learn to swim programme, know as our tadpole squad (yellow, green, blue and red caps) for many years. This programme has produced many excellent swimmers who have moved on to our development squad (bronze and above) and beyond. We now have the opportunity to enhance our learn to swim programme and would like to share some further detail of the changes. These details are in the attached document.

Changes in Learn to Swim Programme Structure Document

We hope that this helps explain the changes we are making and why they are for the long term benefit of the club and its swimmers. If you have any questions about the changes or how this may affect you, please get in touch by e-mail to BASCPresident@outlook.com and copy to BASCSecretary@outlook.com

Change to Squad Training Timetable (4 June 2018)

Link to NEW TIMETABLE

These changes have been made to provide additional capacity across the development squads. For some time we’ve had a situation whereby swimmers may be ready progress to the next squad, but there isn’t the capacity to do so.

As we can’t get additional pool time at Xcite Bathgate, the only way the club can address this issue is to ensure we maximise the pool time currently available at the Xcite, St Kentigerns’ Academy and Armadale Academy pools.

Each squad will have the same amount of pool time as they have in the current timetable. However the venue for some of the Bronze, Adult Improvers and Masters squad training sessions has changed. The Tadpole timetable is unchanged.

Members of the committee and the coaching team will be available on Friday 25th May from 6.30-7.30pm, on the balcony should you have any questions or wish to discuss the new timetable.

We trust this makes sense but should you have any questions in the meantime, please e-mail BASCSecretary@outlook.com
